Two Years With Lucy
Some of the leaves on the trees around here are already starting to turn colors, going into browns and reds, and are beginning to fall. I think it might be a certain tree that does it early or maybe it has something to do with this particular climate. I don't know for sure. We have maples, oaks, beech trees and pines here. There are also dogwood trees and tulip trees and another kind I don't remember the name of. The beech trees like to hold onto their leaves, long after they've turned golden brown and don't fall until new ones begin to bud in spring.
Nature is always available to us as a reminder of our impermanence and also the possibility of transformation and growth. Even if it takes a long time. I have been watching the vines creep up wherever they can grab hold every single day and the progress seems very slow, but then one day I look and they're already taller than I am reaching up to the sky, feeling for the next thing to hold onto.
