July Always Brings Nostalgia
4th of July was this week. We haven't been going out anywhere on holidays like we used to when we lived in the city. We used to walk into the foothills of Boise and watch all the fireworks going off in the valley. One year we went to the park where they were doing the fireworks and sat in the grass as they burst overhead and afterwards we walked along the greenbelt with a huge line of people, in the dark, crossing Capital Boulevard and going somewhere afterwards.
This year we stayed home. We didn't do anything at all really, but what we did do is go down to the edge of the driveway to where the road is and see what we could see. Of course we didn't see any fireworks because of all the trees that are lining the road, which is very dense, and it's a view I really enjoy, but what we did get to see is dozens of sparkling fireflies interweaving through the batch of trees along the side of the driveway and lightning that was visible off in the distance where the road makes a curve at the ho…
